“You know, this is such beautiful country up here—it should be called the Northeast Kingdom.”
That was a comment made about fifty years ago by Vermont native, farmer and then Senator George Aiken. And so it is known today. The Kingdom is a four-season recreation area and a world-wide destination for its’ spectacular fall foliage and maple syrup in the spring.

  • Barnet: Inn at Maplemont Farm - Landmark farm on 43 ac. along the Connecticut River scenic by-way; elegant turn-of-the-century home with tin ceilings, natural woodwork, large rooms, private baths, fabulous breakfasts.
  • Barton: Anglin Bed & Breakfast - This scenic Bed & Breakfast is located on the West shore of Crystal Lake, in the heart of the Northeast Kingdom and what is often referred to as the "Lakes Region" of Vermont. The Silver Maple Lodge and Cottages is one of Vermont's oldest continuously operating country inns. The centerpiece of our historic property is an antique farmhouse dating to the late 1700's, which was expanded in the Victorian-style in the mid 1800's. The inn, which first opened its doors to travelers in the 1920's, has been restored and refurbished. Our look is fresh but the lodge is filled with many of the inn's original antique furnishings and exposed 200 year old hand-hewn beams remain.
